| Abstract: | The Current Population Survey (CPS) is a monthly survey of about 60,000 households. Each household entering the CPS is administered 4 monthly interviews, the ignored for 8 months, then interviewed again for 4 more months. Since 1979 only households in months 4 and 8 have been asked their usual weekly earnings/usual weekly hours. These are the outgoing rotations groups and each year BLS gathers all these interviews together. NBER created uniform extracts from these files on approximately 50 variables. Aside from standardizing the many different codes, variable have been recoded to enhance uniformity though time. |
