| Abstract: | The Vietnam Surveys of the Elderly were administered in 1996 and 1997 to Vietnamese persons aged 60 and older. One survey was administered in the north (Red River Delta area) in 1996; the survey was then modified and administered in the south (Ho Chi Minh City and environs) in 1997 (content overlap is 85-90%). This data set contains one data file, which combines data from the two versions. The data contains questions, covered in both surveys, on subjects including marriage, household facilities/possessions, occupation, income, economic status, health, children and relationships, and societal expectations. |
| Universe: | For the Red River delta survey, 930 individuals (60+ years old) were randomly selected from 31 area clusters. Respondents were randomly selected in each cluster from 6 stratified groups (2 sexes X 3 age groups). For the HCMC survey, lists of all elderly were used to randomly select 840 individuals (60+ years old) from 14 area clusters. |
