| Abstract: | Continuing users were followed by medical examinations at 6 months and then yearly, including about 2,600 women with the smallest 25 mm loop inserted before April 1965 and about 2,000 using larger IUDs (27.5 mm, 30 mm loops, and Ota rings). In addition, 2,000 discontinued cases were followed by home visits. This permitted estimates of continuation after 2 years and comparisons of the efficacy, side effects and rates of expulsion, pregnancy, and removal of different devices. Taichung IUD-2 covered 7,020 women who had IUDs inserted from July 1962 to December 1966 but excluding women outside Taichung city. The data from the clinical records and the follow-up interviews permit frequent and regular computations of life table retention rate by various socio-economic backgrounds as well as for the total sample. |
| Universe: | Women living in Taichung and vicinity who had IUDs inserted from July 1962 to December 1966. |
