Abstract:The State Statistical Bureau of the People's Republic of China conducted a program of in-depth surveys on fertility, family planning and related factors in various provinces and municipalities of the country. The program involved three surveys, in the provinces of Hebei and Shaanxi and the municipality of Shanghai. The three type of questionnaires used in the CFS were the household schedule, the individual questionnaire, and community questionnaire. The individual questionnaire included detailed marriage, pregnancy and contraceptive use histories as well as a number of other questions on delivery and child health and women's background and attitudes. The household member part gives background information on respondent, partner, children, parents and parents in law, household structure as well as some household characteristics and possessions.The community questionnaire only applied to rural communities, in the sample, and includes questions on the condition of production, income, public transportation and facilities, education and health care.
Universe:Ever-married women aged under 50 who slept in the household the previous night or who were usual residents but stayed away in institutional households during working days.
