| Abstract: | The Value of Children (VOC) project was a cross-national study of parent's perceptions of the satisfactions and cost of children in nine countries: Indonesia, Korea, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, West Germany, and the United States. This study assumes that perceived costs and benefits of children affect decisions about family size. Thus, the survey has several measures to assess the costs and benefits of children. Also measured are alternative sources of satisfaction, background characteristics, and other mediating factors related to family size. The VOC project has cross-nationally comparable data. For the most part the data are nationally representative. |
