|Title:||Census of Population and Housing, 1970 [United States]: Public Use Sample (Puerto Rico): 1% (Neighborhood Sample)|
|Abstract:||This data collection contains the long-form information from the 1970 Census of Population and Housing released as microdata files or public use microdata samples (PUMS) . Information is provided in these files on the housing unit, such as occupancy and vacancy status of house, tenure, value of property, commercial use, year structure was built, number of rooms, availability of plumbing facilities, sewage disposal, bathtub or shower, complete kitchen facilities, flush toilet, water, telephone, and air conditioning. Data are also provided on household characteristics such as the number of persons aged 18 years and younger in the household, the presence of roomers, boarders, or lodgers, the presence of other nonrelative and of relative other than wife or child of head of household, the number of persons per room and the rent paid for unit. Other demographic variables provide information on age, race, marital status, place of birth, state of birth, citizenship, education, occupation, employment status, size of family, farm earnings, and family income. The Puerto Rico Public Use Samples did not include questions on race, mother tongue or activity 5 years ago, but did include questions on the ability to read and write, the ability to speak English, and any previous residence in the U.S. since 1965. A number of housing items including type of construction, electrical lighting, and the growing of produce for home consumption were substituted for Stateside items on units at address, washers, dryers, dishwasher, etc. The Neighborhood Characteristics Public Use Sample, contains (as with it's Stateside counterparts) subdivisions of the population by type of residence in H10: central city, urban fringe, other urban, and rural population.|
