Abstract:The second Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES II), conducted during the period 1976-1980, was designed to measure and monitor the nutritional status and health of the U.S. population ages 6 months through 74 years. During NHANES II, data were collected by means of a household questionnaire, medical histories, dietary questionnaires, a physical exam, spirometry trials, elctrocargiograms, body measurements, puretone audiometry, speech and allergy tests, x-rays, a medication/vitamin usage questionnaire, a behavior questionnaire, and laboratory analyses of blood and urine samples. The Total Nutrient Intake, Food Frequency, and Other Related Dietary Data tape (5701) consists of three sections. The first section, Total Nutrient Intake, consists of a summation of the food-specific nutrient information found in the 24 Hour Recall data for calories and 17 nutrients for each respondent. The Food Frequency sections consists of reported frequencies of consumption of foods from 18 food groups. The last section, Other Related Dietary Data, includes information related to food consumption habits recorded on the 24 Hour Recall forms, such as vitamin-mineral usage.
Universe:Non-institutionalized civilian population of the United States aged 6 months through 74 years.
