|Abstract:||The Demographic and health Surveys (DHS) program is a five-year follow-up activity to the World Fertility Survey (WFS) and Contraceptive Prevalence Surveys (CPS) undertaken since 1972 and 1977, respectively. The core questionnaires for the DHSs include the following types of information: background information on the respondent and spouse or partner, birth history, breastfeeding, health, contraception, marriage, and fertility preferences. The health content focuses on maternal and child health, and provides information for many indicators used to evaluate major child survival programs for example: recent diarrhea episodes among young children and treatment given, immunization records, care at time of delivery, and height and weight of children under age three. The contraception content includes the knowledge of methods and awareness of supply sources. Core questionnaires can be supplemented by modules covering such topics as female employment and status, health, socioeconomic conditions, family structure, value of children, migration, and microeconomic decision making. To view core questionnaires, see the supplementary materials in Study 52.|
