Abstract:The 1989 Survey of the Elderly in Taiwan was designed to provide benchmark data on the social, economic and physical well-being of the elderly aged 60+ in Taiwan. The questionnaire contains eight distinct sections: marital history and other background characteristics household schedule, social and economic exchanges health, health care utilization and behavior occupational history activities and general economic/financial well-being and emotional and instrumental support. The 1989 Taiwan Survey builds on earlier surveys of the elderly conducted in several ASEAN countries in the mid-1980's.

Universe:All persons in Taiwan aged 60 or over as of the end of 1988, who appear in the registration system of the non-aboriginal areas of Taiwan. The register includes all regular households, as well as residents of old-age homes, nursing homes, and long-term hospitals.
