| Abstract: | The purpose of the 1984 Philippine Survey of the Elderly was to provide early signals to policymakers and planners of the potential problems that might emerge in the transition from young dependency to old dependency. The survey covers persons 60 and above, residing in households in six survey sites chosen on the basis of predominant language spoken and urban-rural classification. Topics covered include: personal characteristics, literacy/education, mari tal status, labor force, religion, family structure, fertility, source of income, etc. A detailed description of this survey is given in the publication Socio-economic Consequences of the Aging Population: Insights from the Philippine Experience, 1990, Lita Domingo and Imelda Zosa-Feranil. |
| Universe: | Persons aged 60 and over. One respondent was interviewed from every sample household. If there were more than one eligible respondent, the person whose name fell first in the alphabet was interviewed. |
