| Abstract: | This is a telephone follow-up to the 1989 baseline survey. The follow-up included questions about life insurance, health insurance coverage, health status and living arrangements. These data can be merged with the 1989 baseline survey. The 1989 Survey of the Elderly in Taiwan was designed to provide benchmark data on the social, economic and physical well-being of the elderly aged 60+ in Taiwan. The questionnaire contains eight distinct sections: marital history and other background characteristics household schedule, social and economic exchanges health, health care utilization and behavior occupational history activities and general economic/financial well-being and emotional and instrumental support. |
| Universe: | Follow-up of the original 1989 respondents. The original sample was based on all persons in Taiwan aged 60 or over as of the end of 1988, who appear in the registration system of the non-aboriginal areas of Taiwan. The register includes all regular households, as well as residents of old-age homes, nursing homes, and long-term hospitals. |
