Abstract:This is data collected from birth records in the state of Michigan. It includes all the information found on the "State of Michigan. Department of Public Health. Certificate of Live Birth." Therefore the data includes information on the mother and father's race, ancestry and education, medical and health information on the mother (live births, terminations, medical risk actors for pregnancy), complication, abnormal conditions of the newborn, apparent congenital anomalies of the newborn, method of delivery.

The file includes all children born in Michigan in 1989. For children who died, there is additional information on the place of death, timing and cause of death.
