Common UNIX System commands

df . shows you how much disk space is left on a local hard drive

fs lq displays how much disk space is left in an IFS volume

load describes the demand on each of the workstations. Performance on east, west, south, lotka, and pareto is sluggish when the load average exceeds 1.00 and becomes sluggish on malthus and graunt when the load average exceeds 2.50

uptime give an up-to-date load average for the workstation theuser is logged into.

ruptime gives a more up-to-date load average for all workstations

busy gives a snapshot of the current processes running on the current host machine.

finger shows all users logged onto our the center workstations.

finger .free shows which machines have no users logged in (the worksation may be processing a batch job)

w shows who is actively logged into the workstation the user is currently using.

finger .local same information as w

finger xxx shows where user xxx is logged in
