Uncompress Data Files

We have made available over seven gigabytes of data on-line. Public use data can be accessed through our data catalog.

If your system is UNIX-based. you may uncompress data files using the following commands:

        uncompress xxxx.Z

or

        zcat xxxx.Z > xxxx

In Unix, some statistical packages can also uncompress on the fly, making the above unnecessary. The following are examples for SAS and Stata

If your system is not UNIX-based, you can uncompress data files on your PC using WinZip.

or

Download the following DOS based utility, gzip.exe.

Once you have downloaded gzip.exe into a directory on you computer (ex. C:\Program Files), click on the program and type the following into the DOS window:

        gzip -c xxxx.Z > xxxx
