simsel
Purpose: This program allows for the selection of all records that meet a user-specified criterion.
To run: simsel a b c d < e > f
where:- a is the length of the input record
- b is the value of the selection criterion
- c is the beginning position in the record of the selection criterion
- d is the length of the selection criterion
- e is the input data
- f is the output file
For example, to pull off all the county level data from STF1A data,
simsel 4975 050 11 3 < STF1A.Mi > STF1A.Mi.a
Notes:
- To run in the background add an ampersand (&) to the run statement: simsel 4975 050 11 3 < STF1A.Mi > STF1A.Mi.a &
- If data are compressed the data can be piped in from a decompression program: zcat /usr/pops/d3/stf/1990/1a/mi26.Z | simsel 4975 050 11 3 > STF1A.Mi.a
