I am having trouble measuring density for zip codes. I have pulled off land area and population size from the national SF1 file, but the results I'm getting are way too small.
A:
Density is calculated as Population/Area. The area item on the SF1 file is measured in square meters. To convert this to square miles divide "area" by 2,589,988.
For instance the density of zip code 60302 is 10,856.69 per square mile and 4,191.79 per square kilometer.
