Q:

I am interested in using the "housework" question in the Canadian census. IPUMS-i has the data, but it looks like they left out that variable.

A:

IPUMS-i are harmonized census files. Thus, the variables that are in most censuses are in the harmonized file. However, the IPUMS-i folks have not deleted the unique items for each country. They provide access to these items via the Unharmonized tab.

The default view is the Integrated view. However, if you click on Unharmonized Variables on the horizontal navigation bar, you can search for the rather unique items in this view.

The items are sorted by country. Look under "Other" and you will see "Hours spent doing unpaid housework" under Canada.
