Reading Compressed Data with Stata
Stata run from unix can read compressed data. This is useful as most of our on-line files are compressed to save space. Stata provides a very clear explanation of the procedure, with one caveat that is specific to our system. The "pipe" that the Stata instructions describe, must reside on a local unix drive, (i.e., /usr/tmp as opposed to /usr/shared or /usr/work, both of which are NFS mounted drive accessible from unix.
In short, replace mypipe.pip with /usr/tmp/mypipe.pip .
