On October 14, 2011, David Lam participated in the symposium “The Seven Billionth Human: What Does This Birth Mean?” hosted by the Johns Hopkins Population Center and the Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health. Other speakers included Babatunde Ostimehin, Executive Director, United Nations Population Fund; Hania Zlotnik Director, United Nations Population Division; and Brian O’Neill, National Center for Atmospheric Research.
