Danziger sees dismal prospects for poor and near-poor in U.S.

"Census shows 1 in 2 people are poor or low-income" - USA Today. 12/15/2011.

The latest census data from 2010 show a shrinking middle class and a record high in the number of Americans living in poverty. Sheldon Danziger says the 2010 safety net programs kept poverty from rising even higher. He warns: "If Congress and the states make further cuts, we can expect the number of poor and low-income families to rise for the next several years."
