Frey tells NYT unmarried boomers face greater economic hardships than married counterparts

a PSC In The News reference

"More Americans Rejecting Marriage in 50s and Beyond" - New York Times. 03/01/2012.

In 2010, about a third of adults ages 46-64 were divorced, separated, or otherwise unmarried, compared with 13% in 1970. In this story on divorce among 50-plus year olds, William Frey warns that many unmarried baby boomers will confront greater economic hardships than their married counterparts and than seniors in the two previous generations. The recession has battered the finances of many members of the boomer generation, and they tend to have thinner financial cushions in savings and pensions -- and fewer children -- than their parents or grandparents.

“It means a whole different world for seniors,” Frey says.
