For this year's rankings, USN&WR analyzed more than 1,200 graduate programs across 15 specialties. The method used in ranking PhD programs in Social Sciences & Humanities was by peer assessment surveys. In addition to its third place ranking in sociology (tied with Princeton), Michigan was ranked in 5 other grad programs in this specialty area.
