Michigan gained the 7th spot in the Times Higher Education ranking of the world's top universities for the social sciences. The ranking is based on 13 performance indicators in the areas of teaching, research, citations, industry income, and international outlook. Michigan was also ranked 12th in the World Reputation Rankings, one of only four public institutions to make the top 25. This ranking is derived from an invitation-only survey of more than 17,500 academics from 149 countries.
