Study by Freedman et al subject of NYT piece on how seniors cope with limitations

a PSC In The News reference, 2013

"How Seniors Manage to Adapt" - New York Times. 12/23/2013.

This piece describes how seniors respond to disability limitations on a "spectrum of adaptation" that includes managing alone without any type of help, reducing activities, using assistive devices, and getting help from another person. Vicki Freedman, lead investigator of the study published in AJPH, says that the successful adaptors are particularly interesting because they demonstrate ways that older people can remain independent.
