Using an experimental design, Arland Thornton and Rukmalie Jayakody study the effects of TV on family attitudes and behaviors in 14 remote, unelectrified villages in Vietnam. The villages are stratified into 7 matched pairs, with one village in each pair randomly selected for the introduction of television.
