The library houses over 45,000 items in its collection. These include books, journals, government documents, working papers, dissertations and CD-ROMs that are related to research interests and projects at the center. The collection is searchable with the online catalog. A floor map [PDF] is available to help you with item location in the library.
Journal Subscription
The library subscribes to 70 journals, arranged alphabetically by journal titles. Three newspapers (New York Times, Detroit Free Press and the Chronicle of Higher Education) are also available.
Reference Books
The reference section across from the front desk consists of 100 titles ranging from handbooks and encyclopedia in demography, sociology, psychology, economics and public health. Atlases, foreign language dictionaries, and style manuals are also available. View a list of books on reference shelves to find out more.
US Census Materials
Library has most of the decennial housing and population census publications since 1890. Our annual collection of the Statistical Abstract of the United States started with 1948 volume and City and County Data Book collection started in the early 50's. The library has a fairly complete collection of the Current Population Reports from the Census Bureau.
UN Publications
The library has a comprehensive run of the Demographic Yearbook and Statistical Yearbook. We collect population studies series, the Asian Population Studies Series and most of the Population Division publications.
Special Collections, Taiwan and Thailand
Due to our faculty research interests in Taiwan and Thailand, our collection in these areas has been strong.
Dissertations
There are over 380 dissertations in the library. Students are encouraged to donate a copy of their work to the library at their graduation.
Working Papers
Working papers from about 40 population research related institutions are collected in the library. They are filed under the name of the institution.
International Series
The library has a collection of population related reports and papers from over 40 countries arranged by the name of the country.
Monographs/Books
Books are arranged in the order of Library of Congress call numbers.
PAA Papers/Reprints
Reprints located in the file cabinets consist of over 6000 items, over half of which are PAA papers. They are filed by author's last name.
Electronic Collection
The library maintains a website with helpful links to population related resources and research tools. The library website draws upon the rich electronic databases and online journals provided by the University Library system and free Internet resources from domestic and international organizations as well as US and foreign government agencies. Our goal is to bring together resources most relevant to center research interests and training activities.
