Dr. Johnson's research interests include human fertility, morbidity, mortality, and methods of demographic analysis. She is especially interested in racial differences in physical disability and causes of death, and how these differ between nonmetro and metro areas in the U.S. Her current research includes a project on racial crossovers in morbidity, disability and mortality, and one on aging and eldercare.
