Earlier this year, the House voted to defund the ACS in its appropriations bill [Additional PSC-Info posts on the ACS funding crisis]. It is the Senate’s turn to decide its spending priorities.
Please contact your Senator and make sure that the Senate version does not adapt any amendments that hurt the Census Bureau and the American Community Survey. Let them know how important the ACS is to your research and for rational policy or scientific decisions. Here are several examples to draw from:
- John Engler, former Republican governor of Michigan, blogging in favor of the ACS
- Users and Uses of the ACS
Urge them to vote NO on any amendments to the Fiscal Year 2013 Commerce, Justice, Science appropriations bill, S. 2323, that would do any of the following:
- Cut or eliminate funding to the Census Bureau;
- Cut or eliminate funding for the ACS
- Make participation in the ACS voluntary
