Investigator:   Robert F. Schoeni

This project is currently housed at Florida State University under the direction of Melonie Heron. Dr. Heron is leaving FSU and is requesting that the project be relinquished by FSU and transferred to the University of Michigan, with Bob Schoeni serving as the PI for the final year of the project. The overarching goal of the project is to study the effects of adaptation on the health of immigrants. The specific aims are to:

1) Examine immigrant-native differences in reported general health and prevalence of specific chronic disease conditions and disability at baseline of the HRS/AHEAD

2) Explore immigrant-native differences in the onset of specific chronic disease conditions and disability among respondents who did not have those health conditions at baseline

3) Determine whether the health of immigrants improves or worsens as a function of duration of time in

the U.S.
