The Human Component of Social Change

Investigator:   Ronald F. Inglehart

A growing body of evidence indicates that the basic norms and motivations of people throughout the world are changing, in ways that have important social and political implications. These changes involve values concerning religion, political life, work motivations, gender roles, and tolerance of other groups. For 25 years, the World Values Survey has monitored these changes and analyzed their implications for social policy.

In the 2005-2006 study, a new set of items have been added that examine public attitudes toward science and technology in approximately 80 countries – the most extensive study ever undertaken to assess the impact of science and technology on both developed and developing societies.
