This proposal is an NSF "Small Grant for Exploratory Research" (SGER) application.
The specific aim of this project is to locate the approximately 564 families in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama through the use of tracking methods, in order to enhance the likelihood of their participation in the 2007 wave of the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID). These families are part of the longitudinal sample of the PSID, who might have been displaced due to Hurricane Katrina. If they are located and agree to an interview in 2007, they will also be administered an additional 20-minute question module on disaster experiences and emotional well-being, under sponsorship by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. As these families represent approximately 7% of the total number of PSID families, their continued participation in the PSID is of critical importance for maintaining its overall response rate and representation of U.S. families as a whole.
Additional supplemental funding via NSF interagency transfer from USDA ($953,999).
