Abstract:A complete report on the objectives, design, and findings of a four-country, cross-national study focused on the health and socio-economic aspects of aging in Fiji, Malaysia, the Philippines, and the Republic of Korea.
Questions were asked regarding demographic characteristics (marital status, occupation, education), health and functional ability (self-assessment off health, accidents, injuries and chronic illnesses, prevalence of sings, symptoms and health problems, activities of daily living), mental health (cognitive function, prevalence of symptoms, relationship between mental health problems and other indices, loneliness), use of health service (use of health workers and hospital services, use of medications, access to treatment and health aids), living conditions (household and family structure, facilities, perception of environment), and way of life (living habits, social participation, employment and income, illiteracy). The significance of these findings is further extended through a comparison of selected results with those from a previous European study.
Universe:Persons 60 years and older in Fiji, Korea, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
