As the focal point of data science at U-M, the Michian Institute for Data Science (MIDAS) advances cross-cutting data science methodologies and their applications, as well as data science education. The annual MIDAS symposium is the largest data science research event on U-M campus and aims to bring together data science methodologists, applied data scientists, students, and industry partners to catalyze and support innovative ideas and teams.

The 2018 MIDAS symposium, "Serving Society through Data Science," will include:

Research talks from U-M investigators
Poster session and student poster competition
Panel discussion on data science and social good with Quicken Loans, DiDi, Ford and other MIDAS corporate partners
Career event connecting students and potential employers

Featured speakers:

Dawn Tilbury, Professor, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science; Chair, Steering Committee on Advanced Manufacturing, University of Michigan
Katherine Ensor, Director, Center for Computational Finance and Economic Systems (CoFES), Rice University
Raghu Machiraju, Interim Director, Translational Data Analytics Institute, The Ohio State University
Patrick Wolfe, Frederick L. Hovde Dean of Science, Purdue University
