Pfeffer et al. find increase in college completion rates among disadvantaged students attending 2-year colleges
"Law of Averages" - Inside Higher Ed. 8/27/2012.
A [new study](http://wiscape.wisc.edu/Publications/Publication.aspx?ID=f067637b-c646-47c0-8361-c6e1aadf017e) by Jennie Brand, Fabian Pfeffer, and Sara Goldrick-Rab finds that while enrolling at a community college appears to decrease college completion rates among more-advantaged students who otherwise would have attended 4-year colleges, it has a modestly positive effect for disadvantaged students who otherwise would not have attended college -- a group that represents the majority of community college-goers.
