"Duggan to UM: Study murders like hospital deaths" - Detroit News. 05/03/2017.

In 2016, 302 homicides occurred in Detroit. Mayor Mike Duggan says U-M should study these murders like hospital deaths, to determine what happened and whether they could have been prevented. “What if we did a research project that backs up the root cause of these deaths? We are looking for partners to do something like that,” he said. The University Research Corridor (URC), which includes Wayne State University and Michigan State University, along with U-M, is currently involved in more than 300 projects in Detroit to improve education, build community, promote the arts, enhance public health, and revitalize the economy.
