BioCADDIE (Biomedical and healthCAre Data Discovery and Indexing Ecosystem)
The Biomedical and Healthcare Data Discovery and Indexing Engine Center (BioCADDIE) will explore the best approaches to creating an environment where data are discoverable, accessible and citable. BioCADDIE is a collaborative consortium through which biomedical researchers and data science experts will together pose key questions, test new concepts, and provide the NIH and the broader community of stakeholders with the knowledge of the means for discovery, access, and citation of biomedical big data. BioCADDIE will use extensive community engagement through outreach, promotion of communication, the assembly of Task Forces to study relevant questions, and testing through pilot studies of approaches that will assess how best to effect data discovery and citation.
Dr. George Alter at the University of Michigan will collaborate with the University of California, San Diego to serve BioCADDIE as leader of the Data Showcase Task Force and a member of the Steering Committee. The Data Showcase Task Force is responsible for developing mechanisms to facilitate access and use of data. As Task Force leader, Alter will recruit Task Force members representing the needs of NIH data producers and users. The Task Force will solicit proposals for pilot projects, review and rank proposals, and monitor and assist pilot projects after funding.
