PSID, CDS, and TA: Data Enhancements and User Training, Support, and Outreach
This project integrates user education, support, and outreach efforts with data enhancements to expand the use and utility of data from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID), the PSID Child Development Supplement (CDS), and the PSID Transition into Adulthood (TA) Study for researchers and policymakers. PSID is a longitudinal survey of a nationally representative sample of U.S. families that has collected data on the same families and their descendants for 38 waves since its inception in 1968. CDS followed a cohort of nearly 3,600 children from PSID families who were 0 to 12 years of age in 1997 through three rounds of data collection(1997, 2002/03, and 2007/08). The biennial TA study followed CDS children once they turned 18 (2005-2015). The CDS-TA archive provides up to 18 years of information on the youngest children in the cohort. To make these rich and complex data sets easier to use, this project will develop and conduct an annual course on PSID data analysis geared to new users of the data; provide assistance for complex access/analysis issues via online help and rapid-response user support; conduct an annual user workshop to foster exchange among new and experienced researchers; and increase the size and disciplinary breadth of user communities via greater dissemination and outreach efforts. In conjunction with these efforts, the project will undertake data enhancements to further improve user experience.
