Collaborative Research: STEM Training, Employment in Industry, and Entrepreneurship Supplement

Research Project Description

Since the STEM Training proposal was funded, IRIS has embarked on a new pilot effort in partnership with the University of Michigan, the University of California Office of the President and the Census Bureau to examine data for all students (including undergraduate, graduate and professional degree programs) enrolled on these campuses. These data include additional information about the students who were employed in research (and are thus represented in UMETRICS) as well as those who were supported by other mechanisms including teaching assistantships, fellowships, or self-funding and thus do not appear in UMETRICS.

We request supplemental support to enable these student enrollment data to be linked with UMETRICS and CENSUS data in order to do pilot work which stands to improve our originally proposed analytic strategy. In particular we will undertake two efforts that could address known weaknesses with the original study design, but do not represent a substantive change in either the proposed goals or methods.

Funding: National Science Foundation (DGE-1535370)

Funding Period: 9/1/2016 to 8/31/2019
