Creating A Robust and Reliable Resource for Acessing, Sharing, and Analyzing Confidential Geospatial Research Data: Overcoming Obstacles to Replicating NSF Research

Research Project Description

ICPSR will collaborate with the American Association of Geographers as a subcontractor to an NSF project. ICPSR will accept deposits of data for NSF-funded projects with detailed geospatial data and provide geospatial researchers a secured method to share the data. To accomplish this, ICPSR will undertake a number of improvements to its system of virtual data access to improve the user experience with regard to geospatial data. These include making a Geographic Virtual Data Enclave (GVDE) available to the research community, implementation of a digital identifier for trained, trusted researchers, and new tools for ensuring the confidentiality of output, such as maps, removed from the GVDE.
