Morbidity and Mortality in Gender Minority Populations: Estimates of a Sample of Gender Minority Beneficiaries in Private Insurance Data
Due to a lack of probability samples of gender minority a people in the U.S., understanding age-specific prevalence rates of morbidity and mortality in this population has been difficult to study. Instead, researchers have turned to administrative health care data to identify gender minority people and quantify the prevalence of morbidity and mortality in this population. Still, these studies have relied on claims data from the Medicare and Veterans Administration Programs, representing a very specific segment of this population. To date, no studies have estimated the morbidity and mortality rates in private insurance data. Using the OptumInsight Claims Database, the proposed research will analyze the claims of over 15 million beneficiaries from 2001-2017 to identify gender minority beneficiaries and compare their rates of morbidity and mortality to those of gender non-minority beneficiaries.
