Division of Global HIV and TB (DGHT) Open Access Initiative - Data Sharing and Archiving Support

Research Project Description

In 2016, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued the Policy on Public Health Research and Nonresearch Data Management and Access that requires public health research and non-research data collected or generated using CDC funds or data reported to CDC as part of a data collection system to be made available for public use. Availability must include, in addition to data access, implementation of quality standards, maintenance of privacy and confidentiality, proprietary interests, intellectual property rights, ethical matters and impartiality of sharing.

Toward these goals, the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) will advise the Division of Global HIV and TB (DGHT) on compliance with the CDC Policy through assessment of DGHT data and reporting to DGHT on quality and confidentiality concerns, potential restricted use of confidential data for existing data, and data management best practices guidelines for data producers. This collaboration will enable DGHT to manage and facilitate discovery and reuse of DGHT- funded public health data, in alignment with security requirements and in accordance with quality data standards.
