HMS Main 3-Year Studies 2019-2022

Research Project Description

The Healthy Minds Network (HMN) partners with the JED Campus Program (JED Campus) (www.thecampusprogram.org/learn-about-campusprogram), a nationwide initiative of The Jed Foundation (JED) designed to guide schools through a collaborative process of comprehensive systems, program and policy development with customized support to build upon existing student mental health, substance abuse and suicide prevention efforts. Through this partnership, campuses usually participate in Healthy Minds Study (HMS) twice over the course of three to four years. The first iteration of the HMS survey takes place during first year of JED Campus and the second iteration of the HMS survey during third/fourth year of the program. JED will receive a de-identified data set and all data reports for each participating school (i.e., they will know which school the data set & reports came from, but all individual/participant identifying data will be removed) these will be the exact same deliverables that the school, themselves, will receive. Moreover, at the end of the academic year, JED will have the option to receive an aggregate data set and data reports of the main findings from all JED schools that have participated during the academic year. If/when presenting these findings, JED will agree to blind school names and other institutional identifying data or information. Both HMS and JED data allow schools to assess systems change (as measured by JED Campus) and changes in student attitudes/behaviors (as measured by HMS) over time. When implemented together, these initiatives yield a comprehensive approach to using research to enhance campus mental health programs and policies.
